2022 - A Year of Rebuilding

This was a year of rebuilding for Yoga Behind Bars. Our programs were on pause for most of 2020 and 2021, but as COVID restrictions were being lifted we committed ourselves to making a slow and intentional return back to facilities around the state. We've been moving at the speed of trust and leaning into relationship building as our means to re-engaging with facilities and our community behind and beyond bars.

We're grateful to share that in 2022 we...

  • We completed (14) 3-hr youth workshops in partnership with the Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF)

  • We facilitated weekly trauma-informed yoga for young people at Echo Glen Children's Center

  • We contracted with 5 system-impacted and former YBB participants to facilitate youth programming

  • We facilitated 2 trauma-informed yoga teacher trainings

  • We engaged with veterans at Maleng Regional Justice Center (MRJC) and King County Correctional Facility (KCCF)

  • We returned to teaching weekly at Monroe Correctional Complex

  • We supported our 4 teachers behind bars with continuing education

  • We held 2 community yoga classes

The power of our programs is in our ability to show up, consistently. We will continue to show up for our community behind bars and will be expanding our offerings beyond bars to include monthly yoga offerings free for anyone who is system impacted. Stay tuned!

Thank you for showing up for us and this community. Let's keep getting free, together.
