YBB’s Race and Social Justice committee is looking for volunteers!

YBB community! We are looking to recruit 2-4 new members to our Race and Social Justice committee. Our RSJ committee meets monthly, in person quarterly and online the other months. Current meetings are Wednesdays from 4:00-5:30pm, but we are planning to reassess whether this is the best time for everyone once we gain a few new members.

Past projects include: building a racial equity tool for board and staff to use for any important decision-making, organizing a screening and discussion around mass incarceration, racism, and barriers to re-entry; reviewing Yoga Behind Bars budget, creating monthly calendar of RSJ events to share with board, representing YBB at RSJ events, and more.

Expectations:

• Meetings are monthly, members must commit to attending at least 9 meetings per year

• Must be member of 1 sub committee to work on and continue progress of specific projects

• Representing us in the community: please attend at least one event quarterly that speaks to race and social justice

• Commitment to our mission and our values of Integrity, Social Justice, Community, Excellence, and Integrity required

Our Purpose: The Race & Social Justice Committee assists YBBs Staff and Board of Directors in its review, development and implementation of YBB goals to eliminate racial disparities and achieve racial equity within our organization, our community, and beyond. The committee gives the members an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of racial and social justice issues in prisons and our community, and to contribute to initiative development, advocacy, and assessment. Committee members provide expert advice and counsel for the ongoing relevancy and effectiveness of YBBs efforts to end structural racism.
